Swami Vivekananda Study Circle was established on 11th June,1994 with its head quartor at Ludhiana(India), under the able guidance of Sh. J.B.Goyal, IAS as its founder President and Sh. C.S. Talwar, PCS as the founder Secretary. The circle is a non-communal, non-political, social, cultural and philanthropic organisation. The circle will endeavour to serve the people of the country strictly without any prejudice or distinction of caste, colour, creed, race, religion or sex. The circle while preaching, professing, propagating and imbibing the great ideals of Swami Vivekananda will ensure that these ideas and ideals are interpreted and followed in their truest, the most humane and broad visionary sense.

The Circle maintains a good library of books/portraits on Swami Vivekananda at its Head Quartor and at all the branch offices.

As the circle hopes to expand its influence rapidly, with the grace of God, then in due course of time it may decide to have a hierarchy of Members & office bearers, such as-Local members / office bearers, Distt.Level members / office bearers, State level members / office bearers, National level members / office bearers.

The circle aims at spreading and preaching the spirit of universal brotherhood and 'unity of man'. The essence of this spirit is as summed by Swami Vivekananda, "Everything must be sacrificed, if necessary, for the noble sentiment, universality".

The circle aims at spreading the feeling of communal Harmony. The guiding words of Swami ji are,

" We not only tolerate other religions but we accept them as true. I accept all religions that were in the past and worship with them in whatever form they worship God. I shall go to a mosque with a Mohammedan. I shall enter a church with a Christian kneel before the Crucifix; I shall enter a Buddhist Monarchy and seek protection of Buddha and His law; I shall go to a forest with a Hindu and try to seek salvation there."

The circle aims at the spread of spirituality in its truest and purest form, to check the epidemics of materialism and mammon worship which are causing physical, moral and spiritual degeneration of the society. While doing so the watchwords of the circle will be the words of Swami Vivekananda,

" Do not care for doctrines, do not care for dogmas or sects…they count for little with essence of existence in each man which is spirituality; and the more this is developed in a man the more powerful he is for good….' You should show by your lives that Religion does not mean words or names, or seeks, but that it means spiritual realisation…it means being and becoming."

The circle will aim at spreading among the Indians a feeling of brotherhood for fellow Indians and genuine love and pride for the country. The soul stirring words of Swami ji will guide and inspire us:

"O Indians! Forget not that the lower classes the ignorant, the poor, the illiterate, the cobbler, the sweeper are thy flesh and blood and thy brothers. Thou brave ones, be bold, take courage, be proud that thou art an Indian and proudly proclaim at the top of thy voice…"The Indian is my brother, the Indian is my life ……India's society is the cradle of my infancy; the pleasure garden of my youth, the sacred heaven, the Varanasi of my old age. Say brother, "The soul of India is my highest heaven and the Good of India is my Good!"

The circle will also aim at spreading broad outlook on international brotherhood. The keynote words of Swami ji will be:" Come be men, come out of your narrow holes and have a look abroad. See how nations are on the march. Do you love man? Do you love your country? Then come; let us struggle for higher and better things. Look not back…. But forward…. With all my love for India and with all my patriotism and veneration for the ancients I can not but think that we have to learn many things from other nations…. We can not do without the world outside India; it was our foolishness that we thought we could and we have paid the penalty…paid the penalty once …Let us do it no more….!"

The circle will aim at spreading the importance and relevance of science and scientific attitude in our modern society. Regarding this Swami ji said," I regard modern science as a manifestation of the real religious spirit, for it seeks to understand truth by sincere effort."

The Circle will aim at the upliftment of the status of women. The guiding words of Swami Vivekananda will be "Women must be put in a position to solve their problems in their own way. No one can or ought to do this for them. And our Indian women are capable of doing that as any in the world. "

The Circle aims at playing role for the eradication of poverty, the backwardness and the ignorance from the face of the nation. The Circle will endeavour to improve the lot of Dalits and Daridras - the downtrodden; to wipe the tears of the widows, to put morsels in the mouth of the orphans and to bring solace and comfort to the sick and suffering. The Circle for this purpose will try to shake the moral conscience of people specially of the "haves" and the "youth" by spreading the message of Swami ji contained in the words," Feel! My children feel! Feel for the poor! Feel till the heart stops beating and the mind goes mad."

-And - " I do not believe in a religion or God which cannot wipe a widow's tears or put a morsel in an orphan's mouth "

-And - " so long as the millions live in hunger and ignorance, I hold every man a traitor, who having been educated at their expense pays not the least heed to them. "

The circle will aim at spreading awareness among the people about the social, moral and economic ills prevailing in the society especially in all round corruption; it will aim at working as a think tank for a dispassionate and deep analysis of the causes of these evils; and will also try to help people to formulate ways and means to overcome the challenge of this great epidemic which is eating the very vitals of the nation. While doing so the circle will adopt means and methods, which will be peaceful, non-violent and strictly constitutional.

The circle will aim at spreading the message of self- confidence and strength to the people of India as emphasised by Swami ji in his words: -

" Strength is life; weakness is death. "

" Be bold and be strong. Take up the whole responsibility on your shoulders. You can do anything and everything. All the powers in the universe are already yours. "

The circle will remember the words of Swami Vivekananda, " Do not try to lead your brethren but serve them. The brutal mania of leading has sunk many a great ship in the waters of life."
